NEWS RELEASE

The La Harpe School Board held a regular meeting Tuesday night, June 17th, in the School District Library. School board members in attendance were Cindy Wear, Ricky Johnson, Pam Campbell, Rex Huston, Mark Irish, and Deanna Stambaugh. Also present were Jo Campbell, Lila McKeown, and Jeanne Clayton.

The board appointed Jeanne Clayton to the position of School Board Secretary, and approved the 2008-09 La Harpe/Dallas City Coop Athletic positions as follows: 5th-8th grade Boy's Baseball, Todd Porter, Head Coach, David Anderson, Assistant Coach; 7th & 8th grade Girl's Basketball, Jason Finch, Head Coach, Dave Clover, Assistant Coach; 7th & 8th grade Boy's Basketball, David Anderson, Head Coach, A.J. Huston, Assistant Coach; 7th & 8th grade Girl's Volleyball, Cindy Pollock, Head Coach; 5th & 6th grade Girl's Basketball, Matt Miller Head Coach, Meghan Gaylord, Assistant Coach; 5th & 6th grade Boy's Basketball, Todd Porter Head Coach, Shawn Hopper, Assistant Coach; 5th & 6th grade Girl's Volleyball, Liz Hitz, Head Coach, Betty Bleasing, Assistant Coach; 5th-8th grade Track and Field, Rodney Norris, Carrie Faul, Co-Coaches. The Board also approved the employment of the following program aides: Valerie Van Fleet, Jodelle Eddington, Anna Rodeffer, and Peggy Bundy.

In other business, the board adopted the prevailing wage ordinance for FY2009. The board approved the following: an inter-fund loan from the Education Fund to the IMRF Fund in the amount of $9,700, the first reading of the district policy updates, and the Property/Casualty & Worker's Compensation insurance bid from Prairie State. The board also adopted the resolution authorizing the issuing of tax anticipation warrants in the aggregate amount of $400,000 if the need for short term borrowing becomes necessary, and set the potential date for the sale of obsolete equipment at the end of July.

Principal Lila McKeown reported that 28 students were promoted at the 8th grade graduation ceremony on May 23rd. Most of the student body attended on Report Card Day, however, some student report cards and supplies still need to be picked up at the school office. On May 21st, 29th & June 5th, the teachers attended in-service meetings taught by Joanna Sholl on "Creating a Teacher Webpage with SOCS (Simplified Online Communication System)". Mrs. McKeown also reported that some of the teachers will attend courses regarding RTI and PowerSchool University in July. A teachers' book study and retreat will be held in early August. Mrs. McKeown added that it was a challenging and also exciting year as she and the school staff and students have adapted to the many new changes.
